Do you: -
Have enough time to fly a bird of prey?
Fully understand the species you intend to fly?
Have enough space to house your bird sensibly?
Have suitable land to fly/hunt on? (This will vary according to species.)
Understand what equipment you need and how it works?
If you can answer yes to all these questions, go to section 2.->
Section 2.
Before you obtain your bird, you should have:
Suitable housing
Food supply
Food supplements
Correct equipment (jesses, swivel, leash, bells etc)
Perch
Glove/Bag
Telemetry (if required)
Scales
Training leash (creance)
Bath
Somewhere to keep your bird should it become ill (the aviary may not suffice)
Club membership / access to experienced falconers
Basic first aid skills (for your bird)
Section 3.
You should: -
Know where to find a specialist vet
Register and Identichip your bird
Understand the laws governing birds of prey and hunting
Have had a course
If you have a bird and cannot answer yes to all of these questions: -
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
